Alongside the popular “Scandi style”, Hamburg concept stores sell products made by young local designers. Off the mass-produced mainstream, these shops go for high-quality products with extraordinary design and made from sustainable materials. We selected five special stores where little gems lie hidden, whether as gifts for friends or for your own home.

Minimarkt – home accessories in a small space

Designahoi Minimarkt

Xenia Rosengart's Minimarkt is based in the Schanzenviertel district of Hamburg and sells Scandinavian home accessories in a small space. It's home to brands such as Bloomingville, Broste Copenhagen or ferm living. Alongside these big labels, one-off products by young designers and art objects can also be found. Everything's eye-wateringly bright, but nevertheless sleek in design. The Minimarkt contains gifts of all sorts: postcards, wrist watches, candles, posters. If you're decorating a child's bedroom, this store has a special department for tinies.

Weide – beauty grows

Designahoi Weide

The WEIDE shop sells its wares under a special motto: “Beauty grows”. Stepping inside feels like entering a comfortable home. Every nook and cranny is filled with plants and artworks, including collectibles from junk shops, vintage clothing and vibrantly patterned rugs and carpets. Visit WEIDE with plenty of time in hand to explore the whole place or to get advice from the experts. The store is well known for its tailor-made lampshades, which you can have designed to your own preferences.

INK and OLIVE – simply beautiful design

Designahoi Ink and Olive

Ink and Olive is a concept store in the heart of Weidenallee, a very short walk from WEIDE. The name comes from store owner Alexandra Dohrmann's love of the “ink blue” colour and Olive, the English girl's name. In actual fact, INK and OLIVE is an online shop that just has a pop-up store in Hamburg. The range is limited, but exclusive. You'll find products from young designers and small manufactories here, things that are only made in small editions. They include such brands as Hamburg label behooked, Moebe Design from Copenhagen, or the Hamburg graphic artists from thie studios. Proprietor Alexandra looks for natural materials and high quality when choosing her stock.

Bootshaus Hafen – Design at the Fishmonger's

Designahoi Bootshaus

The Bootshaus Hafen is like a sea shanty to dress by – no shop could be more maritime. If you want to give your kitchen typical Hamburg flair or are looking for a gift for Hamburg-lovers, you'll strike lucky here. The former fishmonger’s is entirely decked out in white and blue and sells china and textiles of the Hamburg “Ahoi Marie” label – printed with seafarers, boats and fish. The young “Platte Anna” label is a recent addition. Anna designs t-shirts, fish market bags and caps with slogans in Low German, very northern and never to be mistaken for the same language in standard form.
